All processes and data that are transferred in addition to the user data when transferring information and which are used, for example, to check for errors.

An overhead often requires long calculation times or more resources, but cannot usually be avoided. The term overhead is therefore often used synonymously for this system load or the system administration space requirement and the system administration time.
