Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) comes in many different varieties but the aim is always to protect the system against complete failure or undesirable power fluctuations in the mains electricity supply. UPS is one of the most important elements in safeguarding the SAP system against unplanned downtime.

If UPS cannot continue to supply electricity (because the battery backup is exhausted), it ensures an orderly shutdown of the system. This greatly reduces recovery time when the power supply is finally restored.
