A business partner attribute used to categorize identification numbers.

Identification number categories form part of the "additional partner numbers" for the business partner, and can be stored on the "control" tab page.

You want to identify your business partner as a member of a corporate group. To do this, you use "additional partner numbers", define the identification number category "corporate group key" for the business partner and assign the same identification number to the business partner.
