Definicja probationary period

Co znaczy PROBATIONARY PERIOD:

Period from the onset of a tariff in which the policyholder is not eligible for benefits.

In other words, the policyholder is not entitled to benefits until this period has passed. Different benefits might have different probationary periods.

The probationary period refers to the period following onset of a new tariff. In contrast, the waiting period refers to the period following onset of a claim.

In Germany, for example, a differentiation is made in private health insurance between the following probationary periods:

General probationary period

This is three months

Special probationary period

This is eight months

The special probationary period applies with the following benefits:

Parturition (childbirth) Dental restoration Orthodontics Psychotherapy Dental treatment

Example with special probationary period

The insured's tariff for dental restoration begins on October 1, 2004. The insured has to wait 8 months, in other words until June 1, 2005, before he/she is elibible to receive benefits for dental restoration expenses.
