Definicja standby database

An identical copy of the production database on a standby database host.

The secondary (that is, standby) database service can be used if the primary database fails, thereby providing a continued service with minimal data loss. Typically, the secondary database is located at a remote site (connected by a network) and is kept up to date with the primary by the shipping of the transaction log records generated on the primary database.
