As of Release 4.70, a distinction is to be made between the existing infotype framework and the new infotype framework for Concurrent Employment:

The existing infotype framework has been implemented successfully for years. The new infotype framework was developed to realize the enhancements for Concurrent Employment. It differs from the existing framework in its buffer architecture which is completely new and offers better performance, and in its new implementation model, which enables application logic and presentation layer to be separated. The frameworks are transparent for end users, that is end users cannot see a difference between the frameworks on the interface immediately. In Customizing, there are several additional tables for the new framework that enable you to set up the enhanced functions.
