The data is protected even if it leaves the SAP System. It may be saved independently on data carriers or transmitted over communication paths without the protection being affected.
The protection is provided using an external security product that is available to the SAP System using the The Secure Store and Forward (SSF) interface. The SSF interface makes use of Public-Key Cryptographic Standards (PKCS).
